Two suspects arrested in connection to drive-by shooting

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — The Pawtucket Police Department arrested two suspects Tuesday in connection to a shooting that took place Sunday between Pine Street and Goff Avenue in Pawtucket.

Authorities say a two door silver car, possibly a BMW, pulled up to the victim’s vehicle while traveling on Goff Avenue near Pine Street and fired several shots into the victim’s car.

Officials discovered that 25-year-old Zasheira Mercado of Providence was the driver of the suspected car and 18-year-old Edward Malave of Central Falls was the passenger in her vehicle. Both suspects began to fire repeated shots at the victim’s car.

No one was injured during the incident.

Mercado was charged with Drive-by Shooting, Felony Assault, Using a Firearm while Committing a Crime of Violence, and Conspiracy.
