NARRAGANSETT, R.I. — The Rhode Island National Guard has named a new member of the command staff.

Sgt. Maj. Deborah Storm is now the highest ranking, non-commissioned female officer in the agency.

The 41-year-old, mother of three, was appointed during a ceremony in Narragansett this weekend.

Storm will be in charge of the Regional Training Institute of the National Guard. She says she hopes she can serve as a role model to other women rising through the ranks.
