UPDATE: Two Pedestrians Hit By Car Identified as UMass Dartmouth Students

DARTMOUTH, MASS. — The two unidentified female pedestrians who were struck by a car driven 53-year-old John Allen from Westport Tuesday are students at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, according to the institution’s spokesman John Hoey.
Traffic was temporarily detoured after a ‘significant’ car crash occurred in Dartmouth early Tuesday evening.
According to a post on Dartmouth Police’s Facebook, the motor vehicle crash happened around 6:19 p.m. at the intersection of Old Westport Road, and Cross Road.
Authorities say 19-year-old Ellen Canavan was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and 21-Katherine Canavan was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.
Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
