ATTLEBORO, MA –  The presidential election is just over two weeks away, but voters in Massachusetts were able to get a head start on Monday.  For the first time, more than 4 million Massachusetts voters have a chance to cast their ballots before Election Day at their own convenience.

Attleboro opened up its early polling station at City Hall Monday.  According to election officials, a total of 382 people came early to vote.

"I’m very impressed with the show of people coming out today,” said Warden Joyce Fox.

With 29,143 registered voters in Attleboro, 1.3 percent turned out after day one concluded. ABC6 was told there were a few lulls during the day, but the lines were consistent. Some even voted for the first time.

"I finally registered to vote for the first time in my life,” said Karl Schaeffer. “I’m 45 (…) I thought it was important, this year especially."

A lot of the early voters came in hoping to beat the expected crowds on Election Day, November 8th.

"I would tell everyone to come in early if they can. It’s very painless, get it done,” said early voter Darlene Mobley.

Many also told ABC6 News they just wanted to get it over with.

"I hope everybody votes, and I hope the right person gets in, whoever that might be,” said early voter Russell Mobley. “I don’t know who it is.”

"There’s been a lot of stress with voting so I just want it done. So I came early,” added Darlene Mobley.

Each city and town in Massachusetts has its own polling place with different times. For times and locations, registered voters can visit www.massearlyvote.org.  Early voting in Massachusetts runs through November 4th.
