PC Rallies to Beat Carleton in Exhibition Game at the Dunk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College Friars opened the exhibition season with an 87-69 win over Carleton University. The Ravens entered the game with a 12-0 preseason record in Canada during the fall. The Friars were led by the strong inside play of junior Emmitt Holt (Webster, N.Y.), who registered a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.
In the first half, the Ravens rode the hot shooting of senior Connor Wood who scored 18 points, including a 4-5 performance from three-point territory in the first 20 minutes of play. Holt scored to give PC a 2-0 lead just five seconds int the contest. That would prove to be the only lead of the half for the Friars as the Ravens used strong shooting from the outside the arc (5-10). Holt had 11 points and four rebounds for the Friars. Carleton led 41-30 after 20 minutes of play.
The Friars started the second half on a tear as they tied the score at 47 seven minutes into the half on a three pointer by sophomore Ryan Fazekas (Chesterton, Ind.). A minute later Fazekas then hit a free throw to give the Friars a 48-47 lead. The Friars never looked back as freshmen Maliek White (Richmond, Va.), Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) and Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario) paced the Friars as they raced to a 12 point lead with eight minutes remaining. The Friars continued to build on their lead as it grew as large as 21 points with 29 seconds remaining.
In addition to Holt’s 19 points, three other Friars recorded double digits. White had 15 points and one steal for the Providence. Jalen Lindsey (Mursfreesboro, Tenn.) recorded 11 points and Diallo also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Kaza Kajami-Keane led all in scoring with a game high 28 points for the Ravens.
The Friars will return to action on Monday, Nov. 14 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. against the University of Vermont for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
