Alpha Phi stood proud as one of URI’s various sororities on campus. However, those letters hanging on the left side of the sorority house have since been removed. This comes after the University and the Alpha Phi International Women’s Fraternity decided to rescind the charter until 2021, saying the sorority violated school policy.

A statement released by the University says in part, "Our office received a credible report indicating that an incident occurred on campus that may have endangered the health and safety of the new members."

The statement went on to say; during the investigation they didn’t find evidence to suggest this was a hazing incident. They do say alcohol was involved which violates university policy, the national probation restrictions and Pan-Hellenic recruitment standards.

URI’s student newspaper reports the incident happened on bid day of this year.  It also says, the sorority was already on social probation for violating chapter policies.
