BOSTON, MASS. — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) approved billions of dollars in infrastructure improvements after fires on the Boston Orange Line train forced passengers to flee the cars.

The board approved nearly 4 billion dollars in projects including new trains and buses.

These improvements will also replace several Orange and Red Line trains that are nearly four decades old.

This comes after a fall out from city officials and passengers over the transit systems’ safety.
