NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — The workers put on furlough by one of Rhode Island’s biggest job creators returning to work Monday.

Nearly 140 electric boat workers in Quonset took a 45 day voluntary leave of absence back in August after several of the company’s suppliers were late on their deliveries.

Back in August, ABC6 spoke to a company representative about the unexpected situation.

“We have plenty of work here at electric boat. The issue that we have has been late material deliveries,” said Tim Boulay; Electric Boat spokesman.

The company says it actually plans on expanding the local workforce by 4,000 people over the next 15 years.
