NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. — North Smithfield police were dispatched to the rear of the North Smithfield Public Library for a woman’s body that was discovered by a foot bridge Saturday morning.

According to officials, a woman and a man who were walking their dog in that area found the body.

A representative from the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office was called out to the scene and took possession of the body.

Authorities say there is no foul play believed to be involved surrounding this death, but it appears to be an apparent suicide.

The North Smithfield Police Department and the Rhode Island State Medical Examiners are investigating the case and the identity of the female is being withheld until next of kin notification has been fully completed.
