Providence Bridge construction begins

Providence, R.I. — It has been a long anticipated project for the city of Providence and that connecting Pedestrian Bridge closer to becoming a reality Thursday morning.

Construction begins Thursday for the long anticipated Pedestrian Bridge connecting Downtown Providence to College Hill and Fox Point. The project is set to be finished by August 2018.

The state was awarded a 16.9 million dollar contract to build the walkway on old 195 land. However, initially, only 13.2 million dollars were allocated for the project, but bids exceeded that number.
