One of the last six survivors of the USS Arizona has passed away.

Master Chief Petty Officer Raymond Haerry, who lived in Rhode Island, was only 19 when he was station aboard the battleship. It was attacked during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

In an interview with ABC6 in July, he said he still remembered when it happened.

The assault, which lasted nearly two hours, claimed the lives of more than 2,400 people, injured 1,000 more, and damaged or destroyed nearly 20 American ships and more than 300 airplanes.

Haerry was one of only six survivors alive to this day.

In July he was honored for his service by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed.
