Arnold Palmer dies at 87, made golf popular for masses

NEW YORK (AP) — Tributes to golf great Arnold Palmer are coming in from all over the world. Palmer died yesterday at a Pittsburgh hospital following heart problems.
He was 87.
Organizers of the British Open paid tribute to Palmer today for his “immeasurable” contribution to golf.
The head of the European Tour, Keith Pelley, says, “Without question Arnold’s participation in The Open Championship in the early 1960s was the catalyst to truly internationalize golf.”
