Pawtucket, R.I. — Dozens of people gathered at a makeshift memorial in Pawtucket Saturday where a man died after his car hit a tree.

Police say 23-year-old Dylan Contreras crashed into a tree on Underwood Street around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

However, the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office along with the Pawtucket Police Department confirmed announced on Monday that the fatal car accident was a homicide.

The RI Department of Health confirmed Tuesday that Contreras’ cause of death was from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officials say no cars or people were involved in the incident.
