PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): Communities across Rhode Island participated in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, on Saturday.
It gives people the opportunity to get rid of their unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs, with no questions asked.
According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug and Health, 99 million Americans misused controlled subscription drugs. The study showed that the majority of abused prescription drugs were taken from family and friends, including at-home medicine cabinets.
For the first time, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration accepted vaping devices and cartridges at its drop off locations.
“Concerns have been raised across the United States over illnesses and death caused by vaping and the high youth vaping initiation rates,” a DEA spokesperson said. “In an effort to support a healthy lifestyle and energetic population, especially among America’s youth, DEA is committed to doing all it can to help safely dispose of vaping devices and substances.”
