PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): A Rhode Island state trooper’s firearm was stolen from his personal car on Friday evening, according to state police.
The trooper was at a family function in Providence when the firearm was taken from his car on Pequot and Federal Street, according to Major Timothy Sanzi.
The break-in is believed to have happened anytime from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This is an ongoing internal and criminal investigation, which is why police won’t identify the trooper. According to Major Sanzi, part of the investigation will be looking into why the division issued firearm was in his car.
“He’s a member of the Division State Police and there are policies and procedures that will be part of the investigation,” the major said.
Major Sanzi said the trooper is still working.
