The drought this summer has wreaked such havoc on Massachusetts farmers, that some areas have been labeled as primary disaster counties.
The counties hit the hardest are: Barnstable, Berkshire, Bristol, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, and Worcester.
Farms in the eleven counties listed above are eligible for assistance from the Farm Service Agency, including emergency loans.
Authorities say those same counties are also eligible for the USDA’s Livestock Forage Disaster Program because of the ongoing drought.
That program helps livestock producers who’ve lost grazing for their animals due to the severe weather.
