Providence parking lot parks

Providence, R.I. — Public parks were popping up in unusual spots around Providence Friday afternoon.

Dozens of miniature parks were created inside metered parking spaces across the city as part of a worldwide effort to promote creativity, civic engagement, and fun into urban areas.

The event is called Parking Day, which is another way for Providence to build a more bike and pedestrian-friendly city. Additionally, one of the mini parks went to the extent of offering puppy adoptions. 

Parklettes were sponsored by organizations and businesses throughout the city.
