PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Rhode Island man who is a convicted felon has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing six firearms.
U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha says 52-year-old Anthony Jenkins was sentenced Monday to five years behind bars followed by three years of probation.
The former Providence resident pleaded guilty in May to being a felon in possession of six firearms.
Prosecutors say federal authorities in November 2015 became aware of Jenkins’ plan to steal several firearms with the intent to sell some of them to a person recently released from prison.
Jenkins and an undercover agent traveled to a storage facility in Cranston, where Jenkins cut off the lock and removed six firearms and assorted ammunition.
Jenkins was immediately arrested.
Prosecutors say Jenkins’ criminal history includes 19 convictions for felony theft offenses.
