SEEKONK, M.A. – The Seekonk Police and Fire Departments responded Friday afternoon to a reported explosion in the area of 1651 Fall River Avenue,
According to Seekonk Officers, upon arrival it was confirmed a significant explosion occurred in a detached, wooden shed on the property which was unoccupied at the time.
The male victim at the scene sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, from the blast debris and was transported by Seekonk Fire Paramedics.
An investigation including the Seekonk Police Patrol and Detective Divisions, the MA State Police Bomb Squad and the office of the state fire marshal promptly ensued.
Authorities say the source of the explosion originated from a carbon dioxide (CO2) canister that had failed, stored in the wooden structure, and that the explosion was not caused by the purposeful detonation.
