Man steals $7,000 in Westport, tells police it’s ‘stimulus money’

WESPORT, Mass. (WLNE)- The Westport Police Department arrested a man last week who stole about $7,000 from a house in the town.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage from establishments near the home on American Legion Highway and were able to identify the suspect as 32-year-old Brian Harer.

Police located Harer, who was in possession of a large some of cash. He told police that it was “stimulus money.”

After some questioning, Harer confessed to stealing the money.

He is being charged with larceny over $1,200.

The money was recovered and returned to the owner.
