New Bedford Police seize cocaine, loaded gun, man arrested

NEW BEDFORD, M.A. – Narcotics detectives have seized $2,350 in cash, a loaded handgun, and cocaine in a drug raid Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Amos Melo, a spokesman for the New Bedford Police said 34-year-old Jose Gomez of 12 Warren St. was arrested after a raid was conducted around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Detectives from the department’s Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau executed a search warrant at Gomez’s first-floor apartment and seized about 13 grams of cocaine, packaging materials, $2,350 in cash and a loaded 9mm Taurus Millennium handgun.

Gomez is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license and improper storage of a firearm, police said.
