COVENTRY, R.I. – Police say two Rhode Island women have been arrested in connection to the "Pokemon Go" motor vehicle accident in Coventry.

Originally a single woman was  facing charges after she drove her car off the road while playing "Pokemon Go.”

According to Police, the driver, 24-year-old Cassandra Tierney, and  53-year-old Patty Leone, were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.

The Coventry Police Department said they were notified that a vehicle had driven off Washington St. Wednesday morning.

Leone, a nearby resident, called Coventry Police first saying she was the operator of the vehicle, then claiming to be Tierney’s mother. She later admitted that she lied.

Leone said she felt bad Tierney, whom she had never met.

Tierney told police she was looking for a Pokemon around midnight when it happened. She was uninjured.

Police say Tierney was driving “in excess of the posted speed limit while attempting to catch a Pokemon.”

Police are reminding drivers that doing any other activity while driving qualifies as distracted driving.

Both Leone and Tierney will be arraigned at Kent County District Court.
