A ferry crashed into 10 kayakers who were paddling in the Hudson River Tuesday evening, sending five of them to the hospital.

The ferry left from New York City when it hit the kayakers around 6 p.m.

The impact sent passengers from two of those kayaks into the water.

One of the kayakers was injured with serious arm injuries and drifted in and out of consciousness.

Police say two of the 450 people on the ferry also suffered serious injuries.

Officials say they do not know what cause the collision, but say sun glare may have been a factor.
