Swansea PD: Three men found in parking lot with stolen car, loaded handgun
Swansea, MA (WLNE) – Three men face charges after Swansea Police said they found the men in possession of a stolen car on Monday.
An officer out on patrol noticed two cars in the parking lot of the Swansea YMCA at 4:45am, a time when the YMCA is closed. As the officer pulled in to check out the cars, one of the two cars, a Nissan, pulled out quickly with the headlights off. The officer then pulled the Nissan driver over for a traffic stop.
There were three people in the Nissan. Swansea police said, while the officer was talking to the three people, the officer spotted a Halloween mask in the car that matched the description of a mask used in a carjacking earlier in Brockton. Additional officers responded to the YMCA parking lot at that point. They then conducted a search of the Nissan.
During the search of the car, officers found a key to a Dodge. Police said that key turned out to be the key to the SUV that was parked next to the Nissan when the original officer pulled in to the YMCA parking lot. Police said the Dodge SUV had been reported stolen out of Brockton.
Also in the car, Swansea Police said they found the following items: A Polymer 80 handgun with a red laser sight-mounted on the front rail, a high capacity “drum type” magazine that was loaded, a bag of marijuana and a digital scale.
All three people were arrested.
