13 Hits For PawSox Not Enough In 7-5 Loss To Toledo

Pawtucket Red Sox Press Release
(Toledo, OH) – Despite 13 hits, including four for Ryan LaMarre, the Pawtucket Red Sox dropped the opener of their three-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens, 7-5, on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.
The teams recorded a hit in every half inning except for the final one, as Toledo reliever Bobby Parnell earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
LaMarre went 4-for-5 with three doubles, the most two-base hits in a single game for a PawSox player in the last two seasons. The four hits also tied a team-high for a single game this season (done eight other times).
LaMarre is 9-for-12 in his last three games and has a 25-game on-base streak, which is the longest active streak in the International League and the longest such streak for a Pawtucket hitter in more than two years.
Mike Miller also reached base four times for the PawSox (50-46) with a 3-for-4 night at the plate.
Pawtucket starter William Cuevas (6-4) allowed a season high-tying six runs (five earned) on a season-high 11 hits in six innings.
Reliever Casey Janssen made his PawSox debut, surrendering one run on a walk and two singles in the seventh inning.
All the damage against Janssen came with two outs and was expedited when the umpires reversed a call. After a ball that appeared to clip the glove of first baseman Chris Dominguez in fair ground was ruled foul, it was changed to a single. Manager Kevin Boles was ejected and the next batter, JaCoby Jones, delivered an RBI single.
Joe Kelly tossed a scoreless eighth inning in his second relief appearance for Pawtucket. He used three strikeouts to pitch around a one-out double.
The PawSox opened the scoring in the third inning with Chris Dominguez’s leadoff home run (8) well over the wall in left center field against rehabbing starter Daniel Norris.
Dominguez has six blasts in the last three weeks (since June 27), tied with teammate Chris Marrero for the most in the IL. Furthermore, he is 6-for-10 with a double and two home runs over his last three games.
The Mud Hens (43-53) tied the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the third when Argenis Diaz reached on a throwing error from shortstop Deven Marrero and scored on a double that dropped between Brennan Boesch and Rusney Castillo in left center field.
Toledo then took a 3-1 lead on Dean Green’s long two-run home run (3) over the right center field fence in the fourth inning.
Pawtucket moved a run closer in the fifth inning after Castillo doubled and scored on LaMarre’s RBI single.
However, Toledo fought back with four straight hits to begin the bottom of the fifth, capped off by Casey McGehee’s two-run double that extended the lead to 5-2. Green added an RBI single to further increase the advantage to 6-2.
LaMarre doubled and scored in both the seventh and eighth innings, but the PawSox cut not pull within less than two runs.
The Mud Hens used seven pitchers, including three relievers who recorded no more than one out. Chad Bell (6-3) tossed two scoreless frames for the victory.
Pawtucket has tallied 34 hits in its last three games.
The PawSox continue their three-game series in Toledo tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Pawtucket righthander Justin Haley (2-3, 4.06) is scheduled to take the mound against Mud Hens righty Cory Riordan (1-0, 1.66). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network begins at 6:35 p.m.
