A 42-year-old Newport man piloting a small private plane made an emergency landing on a sandbar in Quabbin Reservoir in New Salem, Massachusetts Tuesday.

Massachusetts State Police say Guillaume De Ramel was not injured, and the plane is intact.

De Ramel told Massachusetts State Police that he was flying his experimental home-built plane, a Carbon Cub, when he began to have engine problems.

He was able to successfully land the aircraft on the sandbar, leaving it undamaged and intact.

Troopers and the MSP boat assisted the pilot after the landing. It was upright on its wheels. There is no damage to the water supply.

Federal Aviation Administration records show that De Ramel is an experienced pilot and has a commercial pilot’s license.

The incident remains under investigation.
