Barrington Police responded to a serious car accident on Sowams Road on the evening of Tuesday, August 23rd.
Two people were injured after the vehicle slammed into a tree in front of someone’s front yard.
One of the passengers was pinned inside the car and had to be removed using the Jaws of Life.
Police say Dhaval Patel, who was the driver of the car, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for head injuries along with a 20-year-old female passenger from Pawtucket who sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.
A neighbor called for help after hearing the crash.
“All I know is that, uh, I felt the whole ground shake,” said Mike Zimmerman.
Officials say Patel and the unnamed female passenger were heading home after a day at Colt State Park in Bristol.
Patel is being charged with excessive speed and alcohol, which officials say is believed to be the cause of the accident.
Police say they found five empty beer bottles in the car.
Patel posted bail early Wednesday, which was set at $5000 with surety, and is due back in court in November.
