Warwick woman recounts ‘terrifying’ armed carjacking

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)  Warwick woman, who police say was carjacked at knifepoint in broad daylight, recounted the “terrifying ordeal” to ABC6 News on Tuesday.

The woman, who didn’t want to be identified with the suspect still on the loose, exclusively told ABC6 News about the encounter where she feared for her life in the busy Warwick department store parking lot

“[I thought to myself] this is it. This is it, the woman said.

The carjacking in the parking lot of JOANN Fabrics & Crafts, on Bald Hill Road, lasted just seconds around 9 a.m. in late October.

“I was just getting out of my car and the gentleman came up to me and that was it,” the woman said.

Police say the woman asked if the man needed anything, and he pulled out a knife and demanded her keys before taking off with her SUV, nearly hitting a bystander trying to help the woman.

The both were trying to get the SUV back from the suspect, police said.

“I mean it was nice he came over, yeah. He helped a lot, yeah. It was awesome,” the woman said. “It was a terrifying experience and I hope nobody ever has to go through that and I hope they catch him.”

If you have any information about the suspect, call Warwick police.
