Providence Police rescue woman in distress from ledge of parking garage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Providence police officers saved a woman on top of a parking garage on Tuesday.
According to a police report, officers were called to the Biltmore Hotel parking garage for reports of a woman attempting to jump. When officers arrived at the garage they found a woman on the ledge of the top floor who was emotionally distraught.
Commander Thomas Verdi said Patrolmen Cryan and Patrolmen Sion spoke with the woman to calm her down and bring her to safety, before she stopped talking to them.
A liaison from the Providence Center and Patrolman Scarcello on the Crisis Negotiation Team spoke with the woman to try to help her.
Patrolman Cryan and Fugitive Task Force Officer Stanzione worked together to communicate a part of the staircase near where the woman was standing, distracted her, and were able to grab ahold of the woman and move her to safety.
The woman was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be evaluated and treated.
