Storm causes damage through out the state

Thunder and lightening emerged all across Rhode Island late Friday afternoon into the evening, flooding streets, damaging buildings, trees, and causing power outages.

The People’s Baptist Church, on Elwood Avenue in Cranston caught fire after lightening hit the building around 7p.m. The flames came up around the chimney as firefighters worked to keep the damage at bay.

Officials say the church members can still use the building; but there is water damage on the inside.

Lightening also hit many homes, including one on Chopmist Hill in Scituate, where police reported to a fire that started in a basement

Hundreds in Cranston were without power throughout the night.
