TAUNTON, MA – 26-year-old Anthony Loto is now facing six charges after hijacking a car in Plymouth and crashing into a home in Taunton on Monday afternoon.
According to Plymouth Police, at around 2 p.m. Loto tricked an elderly woman sitting in a Stop And Shop parking lot, into getting out of her 2011 Ford Fusion to go find her husband. Loto then assaulted the woman, stole her keys and took off in the vehicle.
Loto led police on a chase going westbound down Route 44, until he slammed into a home on South Precinct Street in Taunton.
"As soon as the car hit the house, it dented the whole front end. Smoke was rising from it,” Bryant Webster, an eyewitness told ABC6 News.
Webster was with his friend, Collin Groom, at the time of the crash. The two teens watched it happen from Groom’s porch across the street. They saw Loto drive into the house, get out, and make a run for it.
"I got to the door and I actually saw the guy get tacked in my neighbor’s yard, and all of these cop cars,” Groom said.
"He just kind of kicked open the door, and then started running across the lawn. He only made it to the driveway, so about 10, 15 feet,” added Webster.
The Middleboro Police Chief assisting in the chase also crashed right into the home, reportedly, to cut Loto off.
"It was surreal at first because we’ll be lucky if we hear sirens, let alone 40 cop cars at my neighbor’s house,” said Groom.
Loto is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Plymouth District Court.
