A much different look for  middle and high school students when they head back to school  in Warwick.

Some of the city’s schools have been undergoing major renovations as part of a new consolidation plan.

Aldrich junior high and Gorton junior high were closed. Warwick Vets high school is now a junior high school. High school students will now go to Pilgrim or Toll Gate.

School officials say it’s because of declining enrollment. In fact, 40-percent of classrooms across the city are vacant. Throughout this process 65 teachers in the Warwick school system were laid off. Many others have been re–located. Renovations to the existing schools are set to be finished by the start of the school year.
