With at least a dozen fraudulent withdrawals recently, Rhode Island State Police are advising people to check their bank accounts.
State, as well as local police are on the hunt for people placing skimmers on ATM’s since the uptick over the weekend.
It is believed there are more victims out there.
Lt. Joseph Petrarca of the Warwick Police department says, "we became aware that there were various skimming devices that were placed on various ATM machines throughout the state. And as a result of that, fraudulent transactions were made within the city of Warwick."
They’re looking for a man seen driving a white Ford sedan with New York plates.
He was last seen at a Bank RI ATM on West Shore Road on Tuesday morning.
"When they to go their local bank or credit union, they want to make sure that they look at their ATM machine. If something looks odd or peculiar with the ATM device, notify their local police department and of course notify the bank of that."
In providence there was another suspect. This time at a TD Bank on Westminster Street.
State police say they suspect there are multiple people in on the skimming operation, scanning numbers from a magnetic strip, and then making their own bank cards to take cash out at any ATM they want.
"Hopefully there won’t be anymore, but there could be more. It’s unknown at this time."
Police are really pushing for people to check their bank accounts and call in if there’s any suspicious card activity.
