RISP: Three-car Providence crash stemmed from targeted shooting incident

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police (RISP) are investigating a Monday night Providence shooting after initially responding to calls of a three-car crash on Route 95 South.

Troopers arrived at the scene near Smithfield Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. where they determined that an occupant of one of the relevant vehicles fired shots at occupants in another involved car.

One of the vehicles then collided with a third vehicle, according to RISP.

Several subjects were seen fleeing the scene on foot, and others were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.

An individual self-transported to Rhode Island Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

RISP said that the individuals involved in the incident were known to each other and that the incident was isolated and targeted.
