A Biden-Trump rematch almost a certainty after Super Tuesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — President Biden and former president Trump are on the fast track to meet again in the race for the White House.

Neither candidate was able to officially clinch the nomination on Super Tuesday, but AP projections show it’s all but official that the two will meet again.

Trump is the projected winner of 14 of the 15 states, including Massachusetts, with Nikki Haley picking up a surprise win in Vermont.

On the democratic side of the aisle, President Biden is the projected winner in 15 states, but did pick up a loss in American Samoa, a U.S. territory with less than 100 voters.

For the republican primary race, Nikki Haley is still in it, having declined to drop out after other losses prior to Super Tuesday.

But an overwhelming loss last night makes the path back nearly impossible, and almost surely sets up a second meeting between Trump and Biden for president.

The former president is about 200 delegates away from clinching the republican nomination and setting up a rematch four years later in November.
