A hazy, mild Wednesday

Air quality improves as low-level smoke dissipates

Good morning!

The wildfire smoke we’ve been dealing with for the last few days is beginning to dissipate – at the surface, at least. Onshore winds today help to “push” the bulk of the low-level smoke off to our west, but some smoke still remains in the upper levels of our atmosphere. This means air quality won’t be as much of a concern today, but you will still likely notice a bit of a haze in the air. This afternoon is otherwise mostly cloudy and mild, with temperatures in the upper 70s to just around 80.

We remain at-or-around the 70 degree mark for the next few days, gradually seeing more sunshine and less haze as we head toward the weekend. This weekend is looking nice, with plenty of sunshine. Heat and humidity gradually ramp up, and eventually Sunday it will be muggier with temperatures in the mid 80s.

We’re heading for the upper 80s for the beginning of next week, close to 90 in some spots inland. Long-range guidance indicates that the heat sticks around well into next week. We’re also looking dry for the rest of the 7-day forecast. If this pans out in Providence, it would be an 11-day dry streak – the longest since the end of January.

Have a great Wednesday!
