Hit-and-run victim dies, suspect fails to appear in court

The victim in a hit-and-run in Central Falls over the weekend has died. 

Gary Laramie, 51, passed away on Thursday as a result of his injuries. 

53-year-old Rigoberto Vasquez, of Pawtucket, was arrested Monday and charged with driving while intoxicated, accident resulting in personal injury, refusal to submit a chemical test, and driving with an expired license.  

Vasquez will now be arraigned on new charges of DUI death resulting, leaving the scene death resulting, and reckless driving death resulting. Following an arraignment on Tuesday, Vasquez was and released on $50,000 with surety. He failed to appear at the bail hearing scheduled for Friday. 

Laramee, of Pawtucket, was struck in the area of 535 Roosevelt Avenue on Sunday around 3 a.m. Upon arrival, the police found him lying in the roadway in critical condition.

A witness told police the car that struck Laramee failed to stop and continued north on Roosevelt Avenue. A short time later, Vasquez, in a vehicle fitting that same description with heavy front end damage, was stopped several blocks away in Pawtucket.
