A Weatherman’s Dream Gig
Tom Skilling, a legendary meteorologist from Chicago, is traveling through the Midwest and Plains this week in search of tornadoes. Yesterday, he found them. Skilling has been on-air for decades, but until yesterday, had never seen a tornado in person.
I'm sure this trip was planned months in advance as part of a highly-promoted sweeps piece during the May ratings period that we are currently in. It could not have worked out better for Skilling's station. Monday's tornado outbreak was one of the biggest of the year, and the footage he sent back is absolutely stunning.
WGN, Skilling's station in Chicago, has created a web page where we can keep track of Skilling and the other storm chasers. There is an interactive map that shows there current locations, and in some cases you can watch streaming video. Check it out here.
