PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — AAA is reminding drivers to be safe on the road and slow down as students head back to school again.

“It is especially important that all drivers are alert, as many children walk or bike to school,” said Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist.

AAA advises drivers to take extra caution when: pedestrians are walking against a red light, stepping into traffic from between parked vehicles and crossing in locations not a marked by a crosswalk.

Drivers are also reminded to come to a full stop when approaching a school bus with red flashing lights.

Violators could face a fine of up to $300 and suspension of their driver’s license for up to 30 days.
