AAA report: “100 Deadliest Day of Summer” between Memorial Day to Labor Day for teen drivers

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – A new report by AAA calls the time period from Memorial Day to Labor Day the “100 deadliest days of summer” for teen driving-related crashes.

It found they were three times as likely as adults to be involved in a deadly crash during that time period.

More than 7,000 people died in crashes involving teen drivers from 2010 to 2019, according to AAA.

According to researchers, 60% of teen drivers killed in a crash were not wearing a safety belt.

Speeding also was a factor, in nearly 30% of deadly crashes involving teens.

Finally distraction played a role in nearly 60% of such crashes.
