AARP RI director gives tips on shopping for an assisted living facility

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The owner of Gabriel House is working to return personal belongings to families of victims of the Fall River facility’s deadly July 13 fire.

Massachusetts state officials are also conducting a review of the state’s 273 assisted living facilities.

Emergency preparedness plans must be submitted to the state less than a month now.

The tragedy leaves many questions for families with older loved ones who may need additional care.

We spoke with AARP Rhode Island State Director Catherine Taylor to answer some of the questions you may have at home, including what you should look for when touring a new facility.

You can look up the facility yourself and see if any public complaints were made.
