Abandoned Woonsocket chemical mill to be demolished Tuesday after massive fire

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — What’s left of an old chemical mill on Privilege Street will be demolished Tuesday morning, according to Woonsocket Fire Chief Bob Cahill.

The mill was destroyed Monday after a fire started around 1 a.m.

The Rhode Island DEM said the air was monitored and no hazardous smoke or gas was detected.

Officials also said they did not see any direct impacts to nearby Harris Pond.

Multiple agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will continue to assess potential environmental impacts from the fire.
