ABC6 STORMTRACKER WEATHER: Dangerous heat and humidity today
Heat index values will reach triple-digits for most, record-breaking heat likely
Today will be the hottest day of this week’s expected heat wave, with heat index values reaching dangerous levels later today. With high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s, it will feel like triple digits for most of us this afternoon. This heat could even be record-breaking… today’s record highs are 95 in Providence and 93 in New Bedford. Those records were set back in 2002, and I don’t think we will have a problem beating them today.
We have a heat advisory in effect all day today and through the day tomorrow as well. Make sure you’re staying safe and taking heat precautions throughout the day today – stay hydrated, check your back seat for children/pets, and limit your time outdoors. Another concern today is air quality – we have an air quality alert in effect along the South Coast today for unhealthy levels of ground-level ozone.
Tomorrow we’re also expecting temperatures to climb into the 90s, but unlike yesterday and today, there’s a chance of an isolated storm late in the day. These storm chances will become more widespread for the day Thursday as a front passes through, and this front also lowers our temperatures significantly – I think highs Thursday will struggle to even reach the 80 degree mark. Unsettled weather begins to clear up Friday afternoon, and the weekend forecast continues to look fantastic! Lots of sunshine in store temperatures will be mild.
Stay cool today!
