East Providence, RI. (WLNE) – Rhode Island’s Department of Transportation is alerting the public of a major project coming to Rhode Island Highways that will affect daily commuters.
RI-DOT is starting preventative maintenance on Interstate 95 and 195 Bridges in East Providence. The project will last a few months and will include several different phases.
Each phase of the project will introduce new traffic patterns with traffic flowing on either side of a divided highway.
RI-DOT Director, Peter Alviti, tells ABC6 News: “The key thought here is… if everyone stays in their lane and doesn’t do last minute shifts they will eventually after the work zone go back into the original lanes that they were in.”
RI-DOT also wants to warn drivers to expect overnight lane and off-ramp closures.
The $3.2 million project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
