ACI discloses inmate death
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials at the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston announced Sunday that an inmate had died.
Public Information Officer J.R. Ventura said staff at the Intake Service Center checked on an inmate just after 4 p.m. Friday after their roommate reported they needed medical attention.
Officers observed no response, called for medical assistance and began life-saving steps, according to Ventura.
Ventura said the inmate was rushed to Kent County Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
“As is the case with any inmate death, the matter is under investigation by the State Police and RIDOC’s Investigative Unit,” Ventura said.
