Acushnet man sentenced to serve 6 to 8 years for New Bedford robberies
ACUSHNET, Mass. (WLNE) — Bristol Count District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III said a 47-year-old Acushnet man pled guilty to five robberies that occurred in New Bedford in 2021.
47-year-old Christopher Daponte admitted to committing the following robberies:
- April 23, 2021, at Walgreen’s pharmacy on Acushnet Ave., where he stole $50
- April 29, 2021, at St. Anne’s Credit Union located on Acushnet Ave., where he stole $2,144
- May 12, 2021 at St. Anne’s Credit Union located on Acushnet Ave., where he stole $5,174
- Sept. 24, 2021, at Mechanic’s cooperative bank on Kempton St., where he stole $1,717
- Oct. 5, 2021, at Mechanic’s cooperative bank on Kempton St., where he stole $2,530
Daponte committed the robberies using a black BB gun, black surgical masks and black shopping bags.
He told police he used the stolen money to pay bills and fund his lifestyle.
Daponte was sentenced to six to eight years in state prison.
