Additional cases of EEE, West Nile announced in Massachusetts
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced human cases of both Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus.
The department said both cases are in men in their 70s in Middlesex County.
The state now has had a total of three EEE cases and seven WNV cases this season.
EEE risk levels are high in Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Carlisle, and Littleton in Middlesex County, as well as Harvard in Worcester County, while risk levels are moderate in Bedford, Billerica, Chelmsford, Concord, Framingham, Groton, Lincoln, Shirley, Stow, Tyngsborough, Wayland, and Westford in Middlesex County; as well as Berlin, Bolton, Clinton, and Lancaster in Worcester County.
WNV risk levels are high in Stoneham and Wakefield in Middlesex County.
The department added that there have been 88 EEE-positive mosquito samples and 299 WNV-positive mosquito samples in Massachusetts in 2024.
