Advocacy group demands action on increase in child fatalities
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Thursday morning the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families is calling for governor Dan McKee and the general assembly to take immediate action, following the rise in child fatalities in Rhode Island.
According to information released by the Office of the Child Advocate in may of 2023., there were 28 fatalities and 28 near fatalities of children and youth under the age of 21 between 2019 and 2023.
Between June 2023 and Monday of this week, an additional 24 notices by DCYF have been issued indicating 14 near fatalities and 10 child fatalities.
