After Spanish ExpressVote ballots error, impacted voters allowed to review physical ballot

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Board of Elections said Tuesday that after the errors on Spanish-language ballots on newly deployed voting ExpressVote machines last week, impacted voters were allowed to review their physical ballots.
The Board of Elections said the physical ballot created by the ExpressVote system contained the correct names of all candidates.
The issue impacted 55 voters who casted ballots using the machines.
“Voters had the opportunity to check the accuracy of their votes on these physical ballots, and voters submitted their ballots into DS2000 optical ballot scanners,” said Robert Rapoza, executive director of the Board of Elections. “The Board of Elections therefore considers these 55 votes as cast.”
Friday, Rapoza said machines in Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, and Woonsocket displayed inaccurate names of some candidates for early voting in the Rhode Island primary. The incident happened on Wednesday.
Primary early voting started Aug. 24.
The Board of Elections said that all Spanish language ballots on the machines have been corrected to reflect the accurate candidates names.
