A North Kingstown man home on leave from the Air Force was killed in an early morning crash on Christmas Eve.

Emergency crews responded to the single car accident on Dry Bridge Road in North Kingstown at around 5:50 a.m.

Police say 22-year-old Joshua Zalabowski was traveling northbound when his vehicle strayed from the roadway and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say weather and road conditions were poor at the time. The accident remains under investigation by North Kingstown Police.

Zalabowski’s obituary says he graduated from North Kingstown high School in 2011, and was an Airman First Class, assigned to the NY Air National Guard 174th Attack Wing. It states he was selected and had been training to become a TACP member of the 274th Air Support Operation Squadron.
